What is Invisalign and how does it work?

Made of plastic and completely clear, this almost invisible appliance is similar to a retainer. It fits on top of your teeth but can be easily removed for eating, brushing your teeth and things such as playing a musical instrument or giving a really important speech.

You will be provided with multiple sets of custom-made aligners and you will be expected to wear each set of aligners for around two weeks at a time. Each set will gradually move your teeth into their new straightened positions. It is compulsory that the aligners are worn for at least twenty-two hours of the day, otherwise, the treatment may not work successfully.

How many sets of aligners you need to wear will depend upon the severity of your problems. Your dental practitioner will be able to inform you of how long your treatment is likely to take at your consultation appointment. After you have worked your way through all of your aligners you will be left with an even, straight smile that you can be proud of. However, you will need to wear a retainer for a minimum of six months to make sure that your teeth do not return to their original positions. Sometimes people will need to wear a retainer for several years or even most of their life, but this is something that your dental practitioner will inform you about when you have completed your Invisalign treatment.

When your child starts their Invisalign treatment it is important that they wear their appliances correctly throughout the whole process. Invisalign aligners for children have additional features that make it easier for you to make sure that they are wearing their aligners properly. There is a blue indicator strip that will wear away over time as the aligner is worn, so this is a great tool for evaluation when it comes to making sure it is being utilized enough. 

The aligners your child will wear are extremely easy for them to remove, so they can be confident when it comes to eating lunch at school and lets them feel more comfortable with their appliance.
